InsightYou are a very smart individual and with your great level of intellect and creativity, I am sure you have come up with many ways to stay in your comfort zone in consequence of losing your growth zone. I know it has been the case for me many times over. In my career and now as a coach, I see it in others too. This impacts your confidence level when speaking in public. So What?I’ve concluded from my research that the growth zone and comfort zone can feel the same. In each you may feel boredom, ease, joy, sadness, frustration, nerves, fear, happiness, difficulties, and a sense of accomplishment. But when in the comfort zone there is a sense of security that is like being covered by your favourite blanket on a cold winter's night. When in your growth zone, there is a sense of alignment that lights you up from the inside that ignites a fire keeping you warm from the inside out. The growth zone is where we proactively move forward in our goals and aspirations. The comfort zone is where we are moved forward by our external environment. You frequently navigate between comfort and growth zones due to the various roles you have in life, such as child, parent, sibling, friend, partner, or colleague. When you decide to stay in your comfort zone, you risk losing your growth zone which is what propels you forward to the lifestyle goals you want. Tip to ApplyHow you communicate with others is impacted by this. I invite you to reflect on the different roles you currently have in your life. Consider for each, are you in the comfort zone or growth zone. Then observe how you speak publicly when in that role, and how you feel when you speak publicly in this role. Any questions or feedback, please hit reply and let me know. All the best, Susan. Public Speaking and Confidence Coach. |
