InsightYou’re about to speak and your nerves hit. You feel its impact throughout your body. Your mind chatter is becoming louder. But what if I told you those nerves are not a sign of something wrong? Your nerves are a sign that you care. Your nerves are there to give you the extra energy to help you deliver your message and connect with your audience. So What?There is a common thinking that nerves should be eradicated. That you should not be feeling them. I believe and have experienced for decades in different settings, that nerves give you the energy and heightened awareness to perform well. To be present as you speak in front of your audience. So your public speaking goal should not be about having zero nerves. If that is the case, you run the risk of your message delivery coming across flat with no connection. The goal is to learn how to conduct and take the lead of your nerves, to use them to your advantage.
