Keeping to time and making time are two ways you may show value when asked to speak at any occasion. Many people forget or decide not to time themselves on delivering any of their prepared speeches, presentations, or them talking through an agenda item in a meeting. This is generally because of the belief that they will be okay watching the clock when they are speaking ‘live’ at that occasion. You probably will be but why miss out on the extra piece of gold and may help you stand out from the rest. The gold you will receive from giving yourself the time to time what you will say and how you will say, is you get a feel for your talk, its rhythm and flow. You will begin to know instinctively what part of your talk equals a certain duration of time. This is one of the many ways you can easily answer questions and stay on time, receive interruptions and tangents and know when to bring it back on track. It helps you become a solid conductor that leads your delivery giving you additional power to keep your audience engaged and connected to your message. So I ask you, please make time to time what you will say and how you will say it. Every moment you step-up and speak in a meeting, networking session, panel, webinar, presentation, any public speaking occasion where you need to be mindful of the time you have, practice beforehand and time it at least twice. Give yourself this opportunity to get deeper into the knowing of what you will say and how you will say it so you may deliver your message with impact and peaceful confidence. All the best, Susan. |
