Confidence Isn’t a Personality Trait.

Insight.

Confidence isn’t something you are born with. It is built from two things, exposure and mindset. The more you’ve been near something, the calmer you are each time it comes. Also the story you’ve already decided to tell yourself about this something, shapes everything that happens next.

So What?

That means confidence is buildable, not innate. You don’t need to become a different person. You need to practice courage to step into situations to increase your exposure and experience to them, and make a decision on what mindset you want to help you through that situation.

Next Steps.

Pick one thing you are anxious about this week. Before it happens, finish these three sentences in writing: “If it goes wrong, I will…” “If it goes right, I will…” “If something unexpected happens, I will…”

All the best, Susan.

Blossoming Speaker: Courage to Communicate

Hi, I'm Susan, creator of the Speak Afraid Method, host of the Blossoming Speaker Podcast, author of two books, and someone who has lives through the very thing Blossoming Speaker is built for; to develop a calm and lasting confidence in how you communicate, whether fear shows up or not. I use the Speak Afraid Method because it's a way to communicate with fear still with you in different public settings, so you may achieve meaningful connections and move forward in your journey. Because I've been there, both as the student and the teacher. I enjoy sharing a practical insight each week because lasting communication confidence is built one step at a time. Wanting for less uncertainty, less risk, less tension and pressure, and also wanting a clearer, more relevant vision of direction. But getting a message through is never as easy as you may initially plan out in your mind. This is because you need to take into consideration not only the audience you are delivering this message to, but: What their feedback or response may be. What frequency will best help...

I used to struggle with making time to develop my confidence. When I prioritised time to grow my confidence, through coaching, training programs, and listening to various podcasts or YouTube channels, I then felt I had no time to put into practice what I learned. Can you relate? Digging deeper into why I was experiencing this, I learned that the productivity and time management frameworks I was incorporating could only take me so far. What I needed to support it all came as a surprise to me...

Insight. I realised volunteering this weekend for me was speaking afraid. It surprised me. Because I am the type of person who eagerly participated in corporate community days, and I love leading and participating in charity events from school and all throughout my career. I was experienced in this. So why did it take me the last 2 years to do this volunteer work? It was the first time I stepped up to do this, all by myself. Now please pause for a moment and reflect, is there any area outside...
